HOW WE COACH.  WE SEE THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY.

Anybody can throw you a set of macros and exchange a few photos and emails with you. We see things a little differently.  We endeavor to provide true access of a 24/7 coach, quick and meaningful responses to your questions, and make sure you understand the big picture.  Nutrition is so much more than the number on the scale or 6 pack abs. You are a complex, unique being with your own biological and psychological make up.  Our job is to unlock your metabolic and performance codes, so all you have to do is eat the most nutritious foods possible and stick to the program we provide. We know what you are going through, and we coach through a lens of experience coupled with empathy. Shame is not in our vocabulary nor should it ever be when it comes to your body and what you are putting in it. We take into account your lifestyle, body composition aspirations, performance goals, and  put together a plan for you based in reality. We work with people from all walks of life; from elite athletes to those of you just getting started.

In January of 2013, after several years of inactivity and poor eating, I found myself staring down at a barbell for the very first time in my life. I had decided that I needed to change the course of my physical life. I was in a high stress role in the food and wine industry, suffering from depression and very out of shape. I worked with a personal trainer, ugly cried often, and experienced a lot of discomfort, both mentally and physically.

I started to feel better. A LOT better. However, despite the positive role exercise was playing in my life, I remained parked at a weight and body composition that did not reflect how I felt on the inside. I was trying, like most, all sorts of diets and new trends: 30 day detoxes, paleo, clean eating, calorie restriction, low carb, even packing my food into tiny, colored plastic boxes (questioning my sanity the entire time).

In September of 2016, I was introduced to the concept of macro-nutrient tracking. With the help of a nutrition coach, I learned that I had been chronically under eating, and not giving my body the kind of fuel it needed. Within 6 months I had cut nearly 28 pounds, and had profoundly disrupted my old and dysfunctional relationship with food. I was so completely changed by the process that I became certified through Precision Nutrition (Pn1) as a nutrition coach, so I could help others with what I felt was a transformative experience. I now feel happy and physically able on a daily basis, in a way that I never have before.

With my personal experience and my Pn1 certification, I have the honor of helping guide others through this process. Being alongside my clients for the big and small wins of recreating their mindset and relationship with food is beyond rewarding. This approach has undoubtedly changed my life in ways that I had only dreamed of.  They were possible for me, and they are possible for you.

My journey to nutrition started because I wanted to fuel my body properly to support my athletics.  From CrossFit, to Olympic lifting, to bike riding, to running, to rest days in front of Netflix-- how could nutrition better support me in all facets of life?

After a few months of  researching diets and how different types of food would affect the body, I remember hearing about how eating more carbohydrates and fat could actually lean a person out.  Being a child of the 90's, I was totally dumbfounded by this concept: had I been tricked all along into thinking carbs and fat would actually make a person overweight?  What about all of those 100-calorie packs I consumed?

In order to find the answers to these questions and more: I started reading everything I could get my hands on about the science of nutrition.  Soon I was registering and completing my Precision Nutrition Certification (PN1).  I was feeling better on the inside, and it was showing on the outside.

A career in corporate Human Resources has given me a great skill set that I have been able to transfer to my coaching style: communicative, tailoring methods to fit an individual, and finding real solutions to real questions.

I am beyond excited to support the community and be a part of Shebnation Nutrition!

Empathy is really the opposite of spiritual meanness. It’s the capacity to understand that every war is both won and lost. And that someone else’s pain is as meaningful as your own.
